Under a watchful eye

Barbary pirates

Saved by the skin of his teeth.  Saved from dying the most excruciating death.  Mitchell had to be grateful to his shipmates.  Like sheep to the slaughter  ..  shuffling down below decks.  Cramped, airless, in the sweltering dark.
Cut off from the comradeship of his mates  ..  but at least Mitchell had the sunlight.
Ordered to the slave banks   ..  but at least he could breathe  ……
